Bifolding Doors Increase Restaurants Covers

I have been delighted with the extension to my restaurant which has allowed me to have an extra 20 covers within the restaurant and also, because the architect advised me to make the back and side walls as a bi fold door, I can also use the garden, in the summer, as a further informal seating area.

bifold-door-surveyHonestly, when you open up both sides of the door it looks as if the corner of the building is holding up by magic. Of course I know that there is a great big corner lintel up there that holds the roof up, but the effect is pretty special.

The restaurant will pay back the cost of the building and extension in a year because the bi-fold door was much less expensive than I thought it was going to be. I have chosen an aluminium bifold doors as the architect advised that they were much more robust than one made from hardwood or uPVC.

The bi-fold door can slide right out of the way on two sides so that the garden area is fully integrated into the restaurant on warm days and because we have gone for triple glazing we don’t lose heat through the glass on cold days. We have a very low threshold so that there is not a step either, which could be a trip hazard to my customers and staff. Just imagine what happens when a waiter drops a full tray of maybe four meals because he has tripped over a step he didn’t think was there. It is not just the mess and loos of crockery, but the startled guests, not to mention the people whose dinner has landed on the floor will have to wait for it to be all cooked again.

In the garden I have put lots of fairy lights around, which look lovely as the nights get dark, especially when the bi-fold doors are open. The music spills out into the garden and everyone has a lovely time.

bifold-doorsThe Restaurant is really taking off now because the new decoration is so up to date and contemporary and the big glass walls bring the garden right into the room which makes a great atmosphere for all sorts of occasions. We have hosted birthday parties and hen nights, school reunions and works nights out and are hosting an after wedding party next week so that will be a first for us. Very exciting. I’ll be able to open up the bifold doors and decorate the garden as well as the restaurant so that we can use the whole space to accommodate the wedding party. The bride wants lace everywhere so I am covering all my glass candle holders in lace. I think they will look wonderful with the light flickering through them. We have been making yards and yards of lace bunting to string up all over the place, and will be draping antique lace panels on some of the outside walls.

I hope that it’s going to make the Bride and Grooms day extra special.
